How KPIs work

Brightest supports the ability to manage sustainability and ESG KPIs spanning environmental, social, and governance indicators.

There are three types of KPIs in Brightest:

KPI Type
Description

Universal KPIs (Brightest built-in metrics)

Default KPIs for all Brightest accounts, like GHG emissions in mtCO2e (metric tonnes of carbon equivalents)

ESG & Sustainability Standard KPIs

Custom KPIs

In certain areas of Brightest, these three types of KPIs can be linked together to support more efficient sustainability and ESG reporting.

The Basics of KPIs

Recommendations for determining relevant KPIs and KPI management in Brightest:

  1. Use Brightest's social section to track and measure default social KPIs (core employee metrics, diversity, HSE/EHS)

  2. Use Brightest's governance section to track and measure core governance KPIs (ESG risks, policies, board diversity)

  3. Select additional KPIs from priority ESG and sustainability reporting standards, or use custom KPIs to create and define your own

KPIs from a specific ESG or sustainability reporting standard, like the , , or CDP. For example, "Total electricity consumed" is a specific SASB standard KPI for E-commerce companies, with a unique KPI code: CG-EC-130a.1

A custom KPI is any measurable metric you define as an organization in your (in Settings)

Use a or similar strategy process to determine what KPIs your organization needs to measure

Use Brightest's to track and measure default environmental KPIs (GHG, waste, water, energy)
