Adding Waste Data

You can enter waste data into Brightest based on weight, volume, or number containers (if using easy waste allocation).

Entering Waste Data using the Add Tool

  1. Navigate to your asset's footprint data page, and select the Waste Tab

  2. Select your waste types (you can select as many as needed). Waste type options include:

  • Construction (average or mixed)

  • Asbestos

  • Asphalt

  • Bricks

  • Compost

  • Concrete

  • Insulation

  • Soils

  • Mineral Oil

  • Plasterboard

  • Tires I Tyres

  • Wood

  • Books

  • Glass

  • Clothing

  • Textile

  • Household residual waste

  • Landfill

  • Food

  • Organic: food and drink waste

  • Organic: garden waste

  • Organic: mixed food and garden waste

  • Commercial and industrial waste (average or mixed)

  • Industrial materials

  • Medical

  • Metal

  • Metal: aluminium cans and foil (excl. forming)

  • Metal: mixed cans

  • Metal: scrap metal

  • Metal: steel cans

  • Recycling

  • Wastewater

  • Hazardous

If you would like to create a custom waste type, you can do so by navigating to the located in your ESG & Sustainability Settings. Once the waste type has been created and assigned an emissions factor in the settings area, it will be visible as a "waste type" option in your asset footprint pages.

  1. In the Waste Historical Data Section, click "Add Data" for each waste type.

  2. Select the metric unit for your data in the Metric dropdown menu

  3. Select your disposal method for each waste type. Disposal options include:

Disposal Method Options
  • Reuse

  • Resale

  • Open-Loop (Recycling) - Recycling materials into other products

  • Closed-Loop (Recycling) - Recycling materials into the same products

  • Combustion

  • Waste-to-Energy

  • Composting

  • Landfill

  • Recycling (General or mixed)

  • Anaerobic Digestion

  • Wastewater

  1. You can select your own emissions factor for each waste type, but this isn't required as Brightest has default emissions factors for waste data.

  2. Enter the amount of waste

  3. Select the period interval for the data being added

  4. (Optional) Attach an invoice

  5. Repeat steps 3 - 9 to enter data for each waste type

  6. Click "Update and Save Data"

Select your waste types, enter your data for each, and select "Update and Save Data"
