CSV Materiality Import
To upload custom materiality topics and perform a bulk import of materiality assessment data, please follow the instructions below to complete the templates and proceed with the import process.

CSV template fields for importing custom materiality topics
To upload custom materiality topics, include the following fields (columns) in your .csv file:
Name
Yes
Enter the name of your custom topic.
This will appear in the "Sub Topic" column of the Materiality Table.
Description
No
Enter a description of your custom topic.
This will be visible by hovering over the icon next to the name in the "Sub Topic" column.
Theme
Yes
Enter the ESG theme that relates to your custom topic.
Enter one of the following:
Environmental
Social
Governance

How to import materiality topics
After completing your import template as instructed above,
Navigate to the Materiality Module.
Click the "CSV Import" button and select the "Materiality Topics" option.
In the topics importer, select or drag & drop your completed .csv file
Review the column mapping for Name, Description (optional), Theme, and Topic.
It is recommended to upload topics and assessment data separately. Please ignore the other "Assessment" fields that you will see in the mapping area.
Click "Next," to review a preview of your data import.
Click "Save" to upload your custom topics.
Once your custom topics have been imported. You can now follow the directions outlined below to upload materiality assessment information, or click the "Evaluate" button in the platform to assess each topic individually.

CSV template for importing materiality assessment information
To bulk upload materiality assessment information, include the following fields (columns) in your .csv file:

Enter the Name or "Sub Topic" that is listed in the Materiality table.
Name
No
The Name is the same as the "Topic." You can leave this field blank.
Definition
No
Material
No (but highly recommended)
Enter "TRUE" if the topic is material. Enter "FALSE" if the topic is not material.
Scope
Yes
The geographic or operational scope or boundary of the material impact(s), risk(s) or opportunities.
Enter one of Brightest's available scope (geographic region) options.
Time horizon
Yes
The time horizon of the material impact(s).
Enter one of the following:
"None or N/A"
"Short-term" = 0-1 years
"Mid-term" = 1-5 years,
"Long-term" = 5+ years
Impact potential
Yes
The potential status of the material impact(s).
Enter one of the following:
Actual = the impact has or is already occurring
Potential = the impact is expected or likely to occur in the future
None or N/A = the impact is not expected to occur or is not material
Impact scope

How widespread is the impact, risk or opportunity?

Enter a number between 1 and 10 (1 = lowest, 10 = highest)
Materiality influence

The financial value or impact of this material topic in your account's default reporting currency.
Enter the financial value (i.e. 2000000). Please only enter positive values.

How to import materiality assessment information
After completing your import template as instructed above,
Navigate to the Materiality Module
Click the "CSV Import" button and select the "Materiality Assessment Data" option.
In the assessment importer, select or drag & drop your completed .csv file
Review the column mapping and click "Next"
Review a preview of your data import
Click "Save" to upload your materiality assessment data
