Importing asset environmental and site-related carbon accounting data

You can collect, calculate and upload environmental and footprint data for an Asset in the Brightest Sustainability Module.

Consistent with Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Corporate Standard guidance and methodology of measuring emissions, Brightest's sustainability platform defines operational or investment assets that have environmental data associated with them. In Brightest, we refer to this data as part of an asset's (environmental) footprint.

Here is how to add or edit environmental footprint data for an asset:

  1. Navigate to the Sustainability Module.

  2. Click on the "Assets" tab. This will open to your Asset library.

  3. Click on the "add" or "edit" data in the far right column titled "Footprint". This will open to the asset's footprint page.

  4. You will notice the option to select a footprint category in the menu bar in the middle of the page:

    • energy bills & invoices,

    • electricity

    • heating

    • waste

    • water

    • fuel

    • transportation

    • materials

    • employees (see more information below)

  5. Click on the tab you want to enter data.

Depending on the asset type and properties, footprints will collect slightly different categories, metrics and data.

The "Employees" tab can be used to calculate remote work and home-working emissions based on the amount of time spent working remotely. You can also select "Auto-calculate remote work and homeworking emissions" for Brightest to auto-calculate emissions based on the employee and remote working conditions outlined in the asset creation form. To view/edit the employee/remote working percentages and days for an existing asset in order to use the auto-calculate option, click on the name of the asset in the Assets Tab of your Sustainability Module.

Apart from integrations with other software tools and data sources, data can be entered, imported or collected into Brightest:

  1. Using the Add Tool

  2. Using a csv file to bulk upload multiple datasets

  3. Assign a colleague and designated asset managers to enter data for an asset
