Automated Utility Bill Sync

Automate data collection into Brightest with bill data sync.

Brightest supports automated utility data syncing for electricity, gas, water, waste, and fuel data collection for most international service providers to automate Scope 1 & 2 carbon accounting, energy measurement, waste and circularity tracking, and environmental sustainability reporting.

This capability is a paid, add-on upgrade (per unique meter or account connection) that must be enabled on accounts. To learn more, assess fit, or discuss your organization’s specific needs, please contact your Brightest representative or account manager.

  • Meters: A meter represents the unit your utility measures and bills. Multiple utility providers can be connected to a single asset, but each meter is connected separately.

  • Requirements:

    • Direct online account with your utility provider

    • Access to your utility account login credentials

    • Payment of the annual fee

  • Limitations: If you lease space and your landlord receives the bills, you’ll need their cooperation and account access to enable sync.

Setup is fast and straightforward once you have utility login credentials and payment in place.

To set up your utility sync, follow these steps:

  1. Notify your account manager of the number of meters you’d like to sync and arrange payment of the service fee.

  2. Then, navigate to the Sustainability Module.

  3. Navigate to your Assets overview page.

  4. Identify the asset for which you want to set up the bill sync. Then enter the asset's footprint page by clicking on "Edit or Add data."

  5. Once in the asset footprint page, click on the three dot symbol in the top right menu bar. Then click on "Bill data sync".

    1. Select the utility or billing account type from the drop-down menu and click "Create Utility Connection"

    2. Select the top option, "Connect Your X Account," to start setting up that utility account connection

    3. Step 1: In the "Connect Your Billing Account for Data Sync" Window, enter the URL of the utility website you use to log into your account and select the country in which the utility provider is located, then click "Next."

    4. Step 2: The utility website will then be loaded in the preview window, confirm that this is the correct utility provider for this asset, then either log into your account in the preview window, or enter your login credentials into the Brightest form and click "Next" and confirm that you've signed into your account.

    5. Step 3: Confirm the asset and utility type linked to this utility login. Provide the email of an authorized utility account admin, and indicate whether two-factor authentication is required. Then, click Submit.”

  6. Successful utility sync

    1. Once you’ve authenticated your utility account, your sync setup is complete.

    2. A successful sync will be indicated by a green lightning bolt symbol. A pending sync will be indicated by a yellow lightning bolt symbol.

    3. Once the utility sync has been successfully complete, Brightest will pull and upload the utility data and invoice from your utility provider to your asset footprint page.
